“Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.”

― Napoleon Hill

Who hasn’t felt this in some way? When tasked with so much to do, to read, to learn, it’s easy to push off those daunting, but necessary tasks and wonder why we haven’t been successful. For me, I admit, it’s marketing and sales.

By nature I am pretty much an introvert. It doesn’t come easy for me to put myself out there however I realize that if I don’t I might as well stop doing my business and go back to a 9-5 job. That, I’ve decided, is not an option. So what do I do? I ask for help.

In my case, I reached out to Hillary Smith of Barking Mad Marketing, an Australian professional marketing business. I connected with Hillary via online business groups. Hillary asked questions I had been avoiding, mainly “Do you have a marketing plan?” One of the tasks I had been putting off. After a Skype conversation with Hillary, I felt energized and ready to take on this task. There is a lot of work to do but I want to be successful in my business and know that by staying behind the scenes and hoping for clients to search me out wasn’t going to cut it.

“Where’s your blog?” was another question Hillary asked me. “Why isn’t your most recent work on your website?” Hillary probed further. Plus several other questions that really made me take a good look at many things about my business.

Gaining an outside viewpoint can assist to identify aspects on your work and business that sometimes you cannot see. I know. How many times have you read and re-read an email or document, hit the send button and as soon as you do you see the glaring error you made!

It’s good to source and to get help with your business. Even though I am not very comfortable with marketing I am glad that I reached out to someone who is. Maybe this will be one thing I stop putting off since it really should have been done the day before yesterday. I will keep you posted about my marketing activities for my business!
